bipro
Bipro: Yes i did. but the 19 reps are ofcourse not ine one straight line. i had to take a second or two break inbetween to wipte my hand free from sweat, and take a new grip. i did 11 reps in one go. im not sure if that counts then. Thanks! that's fantastic. I couldn't crack the #1 on sight (within 2mm, but not closed). Congrats! I guess I'll just sit here, damn my genetics and then train harder! Rocketmonkey
I am a newbie here and have been grip training for 4 months. I am a rockclimber and can climb rock faces with ease. I am working on the 2.5 coc and like to mix my climbing training up to "bump it up" a notch. I am 6'2, 170lbs. Here is a video of one of my different gripper training meathods. Enjoy. Chalked_Up
What's up everyone, I don't really know what to say...but here it goes. I'm 15 years old, 5'5 185 lbs. I bp 260 lbs, clean & jerk 215 lbs, sqaut 315 lbs, and dead 365 lbs. I have been training grip for about a month, mainly just pinching 35 lb plates with my thumb and fingers. I got my CoC trainer and #1 a few days ago, and have been using the trainer religiously. I've been lifting weights for about 2 years now, and have loved every minute of it. I'm on the varsity weightlifting team at my school (as well as v football), and plan to lose about 20 lbs to get into the 169 lb weight class. I play left guard on our football team, and have tried to play a little bit of center. I'd say my short term goals for grip is to be able to pinch 45 lb plates instead of 35, which I think I can probably do. As for long term, just to be the strongest I can. Well that's it, if you want to know anything else just ask.

I was hoping I was going to be able to completely close the trainer for every rep I tried...but boy was I humbled. It seems that my ring and pinky fingers are lacking in strength. If you mean one hand, you are far stronger than me, so ignore this. Anyway, I used the two hand method for helping my pinch quite a bit, trying to do holds for as much as 30 seconds. I worked up to doing it with 45's and it definitely helps grip a lot.

My gym has a clock in the free weight room so I just grap one 35 lb plate in each hand and pinch them for a minute. Take a minute rest and get back to pinching. I think I'm going to try the pinching two plates between my fingers, I think I'll try it with 2 10's first.
chiro
hi guys, i'm certainly out of place here but the information on this site is outstanding! my goal: must grip at least 110 llbs (i know, very low for this site) as measured by a dynamometer to get a job i want as a chiropractor soft tissue specialist. problem: i'm a nursing mom in my early 40s and have been told that only 2 women have passed the test in the last 4 years. i weigh 125 lbs, 5'6" and have always been athletic--gymnastics, long-distance runner, cyclist. even managed to have my baby completely naturally, at home with a midwife! and i'm a texan, so i feel i have the mindset to achieve this. without any training, i measured an embarrassingly low 75 lbs, far beneath the standard for hire. did i mention that the 110 lbs standard is the same for both men and women? otherwise, i'm a match for the job so they are letting me retake the test whenever i'm ready. i'd like to retest in 1 to 2 months, if possible. i've just ordered the mastery of hand strength book read about on this site and my husband has me doing pull-ups (attempting at least). he's a cyclist with a natural strong grip but nothing like what we have read about on this site! any training tips for someone in my situation would be greatly greatly appreciated! good luck to all of you achieving super-strength! I for one do not have super-strength, and I'm willing to bet more than 80% of the population has greater potential than myself, so anything I can do I trained for. I am not good with dyno numbers, having never tried one, but assuming there are normal people out there achieving this, I would recommend the training program in this thread: Beginner's Workout I used these exercises when I was starting out and it helped a lot, with a low risk for injury compared to gripper training. Have fun, and I hope youpass that test shortly.

Welcome and good luck with training for the new job. I am no expert but in my opinion you sould be training for a grip similar to using the hand dynamometer to get the fastest results. you may not have a lot of time to build a well rounded hand strength and build the specific strength to make big improvements in the dynamometer. From what little expierience I have using a dynamometer I think a gripper choked to about parallel would be a good match. I would also buy a dynamometer and train on it. Use high weight and low reps and as many sets as you can handle to build maximum strength. That is my opinion. If you are unfamiliar with choking a gripper there is a lot of information if you do a search.
Bojast
Hi all. Im Stefan, and have been on and off gripping for 3 years (along with browsing the forums occasionally). Im 22 now and thinking about incorperating gripping full time in my regular workouts. My main interest is closing the #2, but my best so far is the 1.5, which a friend of mine happened to have... Along with being a competitve swimmer through college (and not wanting to work out more than I already was), large range between grippers is what discouraged me from really going after the #2 until now. Im not very big, 5'11, 155, so being able to crush the #2, something even big guys or weightlifters cant do unless they have worked specifically ongrip strength, sounds like a fun accomplishment. I would concentrate on crushing grip - buy yourself the guide. sport and trainer grippers from www.ironmind.com. I would aim to close the trainer for a few reps, when you can do this i think you will be able to pull 110lb on the dyno.

Centrilius
Hello. I'm very new to the grip world. I'm found on Youtube as OcarinaTycoon, and have owned grippers for maybe 3 weeks. I'm not too knowledgeable on grip exercises, and haven't really posted anything yet. I'm usually here maybe once a week to look at comparisons between grippers (HG to CoC, specifically). Any help on navigating would be appreciated! To all who have exceeded the "average" I congratulate you, and will be on my way towards the high bar for the next few years! MLDK
Hey everyone. After breaking both my hands at various times a few years back doing sport, I'm left with a less than desirable level of grip strength. I've had enough of that now though so am embarking on a quest into the world of hand/grip strength training. I look forward to learning a lot here, and the FAQ's are already proving to be a great source of info. Seeya around !

LakeM80
Hello all, I'm 28 and an on-off weight trainer for life. Emphasis on the "off" side of the compound. I have terrible genes for any kind of strength related sports, so I'm happy just being in a good shape in comparison to the average couch potatoe male. Stats? Hmm... weight 82.5 kgs height 178 cm and 8 chin ups with that... bench around 85 kg propably, don't train it. Military press (barbell) 60 kg for 1 rep propably. Just bought a COC trainer and a #1 is on the way here. 20 reps with right hand with the trainer. 12 with left hand. The imbalance in strength is no surprise since i have a broken-repaired tendon for the ring finger in the left hand. Goal is to ... let's say close #2 some day. And do 20 chins /pull ups with current weight. My current grip training workout cosists of normal crushing grip training with the COCs and pinching crushes with a very weak market gripper, with the tip of the thumb and tips of the other fingers. To finish the workout I do two sets of hanging on a chin up bar with both hands. You got a great board here, lots of useful info! -Tuomo, Helsinki, Finland Edited June 1, 2008 by LakeM80

hwf00
My nickname is Alfonz, i am very much interested in increasing my strength to the maximum natural level my body allow. I also believe this would make the body look good too. Anyways my road on this path is lifting heavy weights and resting for 4 days between workouts. My lifts consists mainly of deadlifts , Bench Presses, Presses and Squats. I was barely able to move 220lbs in deadlifts and now after a few month, i can move 250lb, BUT my grip is failing me!!!! I know this because i can do the movement, but i stop after 3 reps when i cant hold the Olympic bar, or dumbbell anymore. This is when i realized that the problem lies with the grip, although i believed that deadlifts were a great way to develop forearms, i say this b/c i can barely close my hands the next day of deadlifts. Now i think it is not enough and it is holding me back. My forearm is almost 12.75" flexed and pumped from deadlifts. I started reading about grip and now i know that crunching powers is different than holding, to be honest i want to develop all and have very strong Forearms and crushing strength. I cant find any of the grippers i read about in this forum, but i asked one of the sport shops to get me a gripper that he shouldn't be able to close smile.gif I believe i will do some finger pushups, some heavy holding of dumbells, some heavy finger curls.and hopefully if i can these grippers i can squeeze, if i reach 10 then i should get a tougher one. ( This workout on my days off) I never used straps for deadlifting neither do i use belts, my body has got to gain strength and be able to deadlift twice my weight with no problems!!!! Apperciate any help you guys can give me!!!

I'm in Australia and they've been a sub-1 week turnaround from purchase to delivery. I'm not sure about the other gripper varieties as the only ones i've bought are the CoC, but there are plenty of online places to buy. Try googling the name of the particular gripper you're after and you should find a good supplier. ...I never used straps for deadlifting neither do i use belts... Niiiiice........ jwils
Hey Everyone My name's Jeff. I'm a powerlifter, deadlifter to be a bit more specific, getting ready to compete hopefully by fall. That's how I got interested in grip training, I was looking to improve the strength in my hands (because you can't lift what you can't hold onto) and I stumbled upon Jedd's blog, then the Diesel Crew site and from there I ended up here. I've done static holds at the top of my deads and done some farmer's walks etc., but I literally just began training grip for the sake of grip strength and I'm already addicted. I've cut some block weights from old dumbells and made a pinch block set up from some 2 X 4 and I ordered some CoC's that should be here by Thursday. I've already checked out some threads with awesome information and can't wait to absorb as much as I can - and maybe eventually even be able to offer something in return.
